Girls Cross Country Excited to Leap Past Expectations

Girls Cross Country has always been expected to succeed, but what is up and coming for the new season?

The terrain is getting rougher and bumpier each year, but Newsomes Girls Cross Country is determined to not let the course stop them. The girls are pumped for this season, and can’t wait to face off the other teams.

Maddie McAneny and Taylor Averett recently competed in the East Hillsborough Invitational for JV. Maddie McAneny placed fourth, and Taylor came close behind at fifth.

The team is unlike any other, they are like a family. If one falls behind, they make sure the other is not left in the dust. Individuals on the Girls Cross Country team state that the team feels more united than ever, and every girl feels like a sister.

When asked what she likes most about Cross Country, Maddie McAneny stated, “I love being able to reach my goals and bond with the team.” Taylor Averett pitched in saying, “The friendships I have made with everyone are great and I love being fit as an athlete.”

Practicing everyday after school, rain or shine, has definitely made the team stand out. The girls are excited for this season and are hopefully advancing on. Both girls stated that their goal is to get 23 minutes in a 5k, and that goal could be achieved through hard work ethic.

When asked what they plan on gaining from the rigorous sport, Maddie McAneny spoke up and said, “I plan on gaining more strength, focus, and a better work ethic. I also plan on gaining mental strength and focus.”

Since individual girls placed in the top three, it helps the team tremendously. By cheering each other on and working together, Newsomes Girls Cross Country can work through anything thrown in their way.
