Pep Rally Fashion Show

Spirit week – the most thrilling week of the year. It’s a time students rant and rave about. This exciting week leading up to homecoming is a time for enthusiastic expression of school pride and exaggerated outfits.

However, the fact that Spirit Week is a beloved time for all is actually a modern myth. Unveiling the truth, the majority of students fear these 5 days of creativity. Many students are weary on the subject of Spirit Week and are timid to participate.

Student Government (SGA) believes they have found a cure to this feeling: A fashion show. They will be conducting a fashion show on October 2nd at Newsome’s first Pep Rally where the members of SGA are going to be sporting striking outfits. The volunteer SGA models will be dressed to express each day of the upcoming Spirit Week to demonstrate for all of Newsome. SGA President Jamie Tompkins boasts that, “This show will give freshman and all those that are nervous in dressing up, more confidence that it is okay to stand out!”

The hope for this event is that it will demonstrate examples of what a student can wear for all five themes of the week and will also show students that being bold and festive is exactly what the school wants! Jamie followed up her statement saying, “The more pizzazz the better! We want all students, freshmen to seniors, to go big this year!”  The goal of the fashion show is to get the student body to do just that.

Each year freshmen fear judgment. Freshman Bethany Bradin says “As a freshman I myself can admit that I am hesitant in participating in spirit week, but I think that after the fashion show, more of my class and I will feel more reassured that our involvement is wanted.”

Newsome’s student government is determined to get school spirit to an all time high for this year’s Spirit Week. With the help of a Fashion Show including elaborate wardrobes, creative themes and models that really scream “Bleed Blue,” this goal seems more than possible. Vice President Emily Harrell states confidently, “This year will be like no other.”
