Varsity Volleyball Goes Down to the Wire with Bloomingdale

It’s always an intense game when Bloomingdale and Newsome collide, and this one did not disappoint.  The Lady Wolves contested Bloomingdale all night with great effort and teamwork but eventually fell to the Bulls after 4 very close sets.

The first set was an incredible display by both teams.  Bloomingdale started hot leaving the Newsome players and fans surprised, but the Wolves quickly rebounded and went on a run, bringing the score back to 23-23. The momentum thrashed violently back and forth as the teams traded points.  Bloomingdale had fans on the edge of their seats after taking a 25-24 lead but Newsome would not go down that easy.  For over 15 minutes neither team could reach the 2 point lead necessary to win the set until Bloomingdale finally escaped with a 31-29 due largely to faulty serves from Newsome.

After the first set, the Wolves made some adjustments and came out ready to dominate the second.  Bloomingdale got off to a quick start again but the tide quickly changed thanks to the consistency of Libero Sam Talbot and a series of powerful spikes from Senior Victoria Omoregie.  Newsome took the second set 25-20.

Despite a lot of promise shown from Newsome, the Bulls turned up the heat late in the match and took each of the next two sets  by scores of 25-23 and 25-22.  A performance like this early in the season against a talented rival team is a very good sign for the Lady Wolves this year.  They are off to a 4-1 start and look forward to a matchup at Alonso tonight at 7:30 PM.
