It has been long debated which soda is better: Cherry Coca-Cola, or Dr. Pepper? While Dr. Pepper has a combination of many flavors, it is rumored to have hints of cherry. Therefore, both Dr. Pepper and Cherry Coke have a cherry based flavor, but they have vastly different tastes.
Dr. Pepper was first introduced in 1885 in Waco, Texas, by pharmacist Charles Alderton. It was nationally marketed in the early 1900s, and then spread to Europe, Asia, and South America. Dr. Pepper is the oldest soft drink brand in America, beating out Coca-Cola, which opened just a year later.
Coca-Cola’s franchise started with pharmacist John Stith Pemberton in 1886, when he created the original syrup for the basic Coca-Cola. It spread from Atlanta, Ga. to across the country, and then eventually world-wide, with the only places not carrying Coca-Cola today being North Korea and Cuba.
Dr. Pepper and Cherry Coke are very different, with Cherry Coke being released 100 years after Dr. Pepper’s franchise release, in 1985. Cherry Coke also actually claims to be cherry flavored, whereas Dr. Pepper withholds the flavor names from public consumption. There are rumors that it is cherry flavored, though, and it is one of the more prominent flavors featured in the fizzy drink.
In a poll, 58 percent of Newsome voted that Dr. Pepper was the better soda. The mysteriously flavored soda beat out cherry coke in a close vote, and the results show that Dr. Pepper is the better soda.
