From the streets of the financial district to the middle of Times Square, New York City is bustling with holiday spirit. Tourists come from all over the world to experience Christmas in NYC. But what makes the holiday season so special there?
Possibly one of the most iconic moments of NYC at Christmas time is the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. Hundreds of candidates submit to have their tree chosen each year for the winter season. Rockefeller Center crews go to the location of the chosen tree to bring it back to midtown. Then, towards the end of November, the iconic tree lighting ceremony takes place, where thousands crowd around Rockefeller Center to watch.
Another popular holiday event in NYC during the holiday season are the Radio City Rockettes. The Radio City Rockettes are a precision dance company that have a special holiday show called the Christmas Spectacular. After being founded in 1925 in St. Louis, Mo., the Rockettes moved to perform at Radio City Music Hall in 1932. The Radio City Rockettes have performances from the end of November throughout December, and its one of the most popular holiday shows in NYC.
A detail not to forget from NYC are the decorations. Throughout all of midtown, storefronts, hotels, and homes are decorated for the holiday season with garland, ornaments, snowflakes, and more.
It truly is a magical time in NYC during Christmas, but this adoration comes for many. It brings in dense crowds, and it is smart to expect lots of people excited to experience the winter holidays in NYC.
