#BookTok to screen

Many books have grown popular on TikTok throughout the past few years and because of that, some are getting TV shows or movies made about them.

These adaptations could be good or bad for the book community since previous adaptations have not turned out how readers expected.

To start, there is a confirmed release date for “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” by Suzanne Collins at the end of the year. This book is getting turned into a movie that will appear in theaters on Nov. 17. The film will be a prequel to “The Hunger Games” and fans are excited to get more content from this universe. They are waiting patiently for the movie to release.

Another highly anticipated adaptation is “Red, White & Royal Blue” by Casey McQuiston. There is not a release date announced, but readers know they are finished filming, as actor Nicholas Galitzine posted on his Instagram, “That’s a WRAP on Red White & Royal Blue!!” in August of 2022. The movie is expected to come out sometime this year on Amazon Prime.

Galitzine is recognized for playing Luke in “Purple Hearts,” and he will be one of the main characters, Prince Henry, in this movie. The other main character, Alex Claremont-Diaz, is going to be played by Taylor Zakhar Perez. Fans are excited to see the chemistry between the two actors and have one of their favorite books turned into a movie.

The next book to be adapted is “It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover. Although released in 2016, this book blew up on TikTok during the pandemic. After all of the love and support from new (and old) fans, Hoover had the inspiration to turn this popular book into a movie. On TikTok, tons of fan casts were made, which actors people thought would be the best fit for each character, and gave their insight into why that specific actor/actress was picked for each character. It seems that Hoover never saw these videos because when the cast was announced, many were still excited, but a little disappointed. Blake Lively was cast as the main character Lily Bloom and Justin Baldoni, the director of the film, will play Ryle. No other cast members have been announced yet.

Readers are still anxiously waiting for the film, even if they think the cast could have been better. Although there is no confirmed release date, some think that this film will come out in 2024.

Finally, “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.” Word on the street is that Netflix is adapting this book by Taylor Jenkins Reid into a movie. Fans are a little skeptical because there are so many details and plot points in time that they think will not be able to be included in a movie. Ideally, the book would be turned into a seven-episode Netflix series, each episode representing a section of the book/ each husband’s timeline.

There is nothing set in stone for this adaptation, but the possibility is still highly anticipated and widely accepted by readers.

Since all of these books were big hits, make sure to keep an eye out for when they hit the big screen.
