Is the new Killers album Wonderful Wonderful?

The Killers have been a huge success in the early 2000’s with their iconic hits like “Somebody Told Me” and the classic “Mr. Brightside” that gets everyone singing when they hear the guitar strum and “I’m coming out of my cage and I’ve been doing just fine” coming out from the speakers.

Now, The Killers have came out with their brand new album Wonderful Wonderful that followed up their 2012 release Battle Born, an average album from the group. It’s been very difficult in the past years to be able to make an album as successful as their 2004 album Hot Fuss, but it seems to be quite a personal album that isn’t trying hard to get the top 100.

The first single to be released, “The Man”, is one of the most energetic songs to be found on the album that gets listeners pumped up, even though the song was written when lead Brandon Flowers was in a place of regret. Nonetheless, hearing that “USDA certified lean” sounded out feels powerful.

Apart from “The Man” and the incredibly produced “Run For Cover”, most of the songs take on a less hype sound that portrays the hardships that each song opens up.

The song “Rut” is quite a meaningful song since it goes into the perspective of Flowers’ wife and her feelings with depression. While the lyrics are quite reflective on how it can feel as expressed in “But don’t give up on me, ‘Cause I’m just in a rut, I’m climbing but the walls keep stacking up,” the song did feel uncomfortable with the auto-tune use at the beginning and end.

The Killers have always been a good band to listen to, but this album is definitely not the best it could be. Let’s hope that Flowers and crew can get back to their greatness.
