Breaking Ground: The iPhone 7
September 15, 2016
Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled this week the highly anticipated iPhone 7 and 7 Plus to the world and once again proved to everyone that his company would continue to shift the paradigm with every new iPhone release.
This year, Apple has decided to ditch the headphone jack in favor of either headphones connected through the lightning port or wireless Bluetooth headphones. Although this may be inconvenient for some people, others such as junior Ryan Mason aren’t too upset. “I don’t mind not having a headphone jack because my car already has Bluetooth capability,” says Mason. Junior Jade Montes is also happy about the lack of a headset jack and says, “I always hated using my aux cord! This is great!” Apple will also be releasing AirPods which are wireless earbuds which will cost $159 and will be available in late October.
The iPhone 7 Plus uses an improved 12 megapixel telephoto camera that comes standard in the new iPhone, allowing up to ten times digital zoom and a depth-of-field effect. This will keep the foreground of the photo in focus at all times and ensures that portraits always come out clear.
Higher processing power comes from the A10 Fusion Chip, which makes the iPhone 7 two times faster than the previous model. Increased battery life is another new feature coming in at a whopping fourteen hours while connected to Wi-Fi, compared to only 11 hours on the iPhone 6s. Apple has also improved the storage capacity giving users the option to purchase a 256 gigabyte model which is able to hold up to 43,000 songs, 260 movies or 60,000 photos.
Other new features include a water resistant design that can withstand a few meters of water for up to 30 minutes, a thinner model, a touch responsive home button and a stereo speaker two times louder than the 6s model.
Apple continues to prove they are the most innovative company on the phone market with new designs and features sure to keep them ahead of their competitors.
