Jeans Revolution
It’s the classic morning struggle: a girl stands in front of her closet and wonders whether she is willing to put together an outfit or if she just wants to be comfortable at school for the day. Not anymore.
The new trend is out: loose fitted, low-rise, folded jeans. Everyone has heard of the so-called boyfriend jeans, and almost everyone is wearing them, from high school girls to even the most famous of celebrities.
Curious readers will wonder where they got its name from, which is quite simple. So many girls were in fact wearing their boyfriend’s clothes, that someone decided to just start the baggy, loose fitting style for girls called ‘boyfriend’. There are also boyfriend jackets as well as boyfriend tees being sold.
As shocking as it seems to some of us, as we are used to the typical tight and I-can’t-possibly-go-up-the-stairs type of jeans, this style has been around for a couple of years now. Even though it really originated in the 1960’s when famous actresses started wearing them, they are now being worn in so many different ways; Newsome girls have proved it themselves.
“I usually like to wear them with a big t-shirt, some lace up shoes and simple necklace,” says Allie Rosenzweig, sophomore, who her friends say has a unique and creative style. As plain as it may seem, the pants can make a big statement to put together a one of a kind outfit.
Others see it a different way, and are taking advantage of boyfriend jeans being in style to not have to wear the classic skinny jeans. Trenna Babcock, senior, said, “I like boyfriend jeans because they are comfortable and can go with any tee.” So relatable. Whether you dress it up or dress it down they would still be so comfortable.
More and more of these jeans are being seen on girls, as celebrities post pictures on social media of them rocking a pair, like ABC ‘Scandal’ star, Kerry Washington, and world-wide known Jennifer Lawrence, who both have their own style.
