Juan Soto, one of the many (former) star players of the Yankees, has signed a contract binding him to the Mets for 15 years. By signing this contract, he has now become the highest paid baseball player. Juan Soto’s contract includes an “opt-out” after 5 seasons, a $75 million signing bonus, and no deferrals.. When a player signs a contract with no deferred money, it means that he gets every single dollar from the contract. The Mets made sure to make this contract impossible to pass up, as on top of the contract($75 million dollars). Typically in signing statements, the player does not get paid immediately. He might possibly receive the money in increments over a set amount of time. And finally, one of the last parts of the contract is the fact that he can opt out after 5 seasons; although, not all the money will be earned.
While all of this is great for Soto, what happens to the team he left behind? How are the Yankees going to pick themselves up after this loss of a great player?
