My Chemical Romance (MCR) is an American rock band from New Jersey that started in 2001. The band members consist of lead vocalist Gerard Way, lead guitarist Ray Toro, rhythm guitarist Frank Lero, bassist Mikey Way, and their late drummer Bob Bryar. Recently, the band announced their tour “Long Live the Black Parade”. Shortly after announcing their tour, unfortunately their drummer passed away.
Bob Bryar first joined the band in 2004 and performed with them until 2010. Bryar was 44 at his time of death. The rest of the band members ask for patience and understanding as they deal with this recent tragedy. So far nothing has been released about his cause of death. Bryar was the longest serving drummer for the band and was there to produce the album “The Black Parade” in 2006.
He ended up leaving the tour around the time they released “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge”. Bryar said in an interview that he left a really good touring gig where he was doing tour management and sound. He also stated that he ended up leaving to join a bad band that was filthy. He says they had, “terrible gear and a smashed up, smoking, death trap van and was poor”. Bryar claims that long before recording “Welcome to the Black Parade” he knew MCR was special, and he really enjoyed working with them.
You can imagine how hard this must have been for the band members to hear about their good friend and bandmate. Death is a sad thing, but it happens for a reason. Do we know specifically why it happens? No, but when one door closes another one opens, and from MCR’s song “Helena”, so long and goodnight.
