In my humble opinion, the cookie is the best dessert of all time. Having characters named after it and stores designated for it, there is no doubt that the sweet delicacy is popular amongst the masses. No matter the country you are in, there is some form of a cookie that is enjoyed. As a kid, I grew up eating Hamantash, a crumbly-jam filled biscuit in many different flavors and sizes. As I got older, I began to appreciate the simplistic yet wonderful treat that is the chocolate chip cookie. It can be crisp, chewy, or soft, sweet, semi, or dark. No matter your sweet tooth, there is certainly a chocolate chip cookie that will appeal to you. The recipe I have provided below is one that I believe produces some of the best out there, the perfect balance between chewy and soft while not being cloyingly sweet.
Ingredients:
2 cups of flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 ¼ cups brown sugar
¼ cup white sugar
¾ cups butter, melted and browned
1 egg yolk
1 egg
1 ½ tablespoon vanilla extract
1 ½ cups chocolate chips (preferably Toll House brand)
Recipe
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
- Line the cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Sift dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, salt) together.
- In a separate bowl mix brown sugar, butter, and white sugar (electric mixer works best but can whisk by hand). Once combined, mix into the bowl the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla.
- Add dry ingredients to the bowl and combine to form the dough. Add chocolate chips.
- Use a spoon or ice cream scoop to place dough 3 inches apart on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until the cookies are golden brown.
- Allow time to cool.
- Enjoy!!
