On March 22, Future and Metro Boomin released their highly anticipated collab album “We Don’t Like You”. Clocking in at just under an hour and boasting 17 songs within the tracklist, the album is definitely a lengthy listen. However, it never feels overstuffed or boring due to the hidden features that lie on some of the album’s best songs.
While both artists originally stated that the album would not have any features on it, there is a slew of uncredited features on the album that really take some of the premiere tracks to the next level. Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Rick Ross, and The Weeknd all make surprise appearances on some of the record’s best tracks. However, the feature (and song) that has rightfully generated most of the hype behind this album is Kendrick Lamar’s shocking verse on “Like That”.
With “Like That” on pace to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 this week, it comes as no surprise that the song is by far the strongest on the album. Between one of Metro’s best beats ever and a great performance from Future, this song was already going to be a smash hit. However, the addition of Lamar takes the track to another level, as he disses both Drake and J Cole within his verse.
With that being said, the record is by no means carried by the feature artists like some recent mainstream trap albums have been. Future shows he is still in peak form without the assistance of other people on standout tracks like “Running Outta Time” and “Claustrophobic”. He even kicks off the Drake disses on the title track “We Don’t Trust You”. These excellent verses combined with Metro Boomin’s dark production create a very consistent atmosphere throughout the tracklist that make the album infinitely replayable.
Overall, while “We Don’t Like You” might not see either artist stepping out of their comfort zone and experimenting, it showcases two musicians at the top of their game creating a very consistently great record. The shocking features are just the icing on the cake to an already great project.
