“Dragon’s Dogma 2” is an open-world role-playing game (RPG) by Capcom that had a large amount of hype towards its release, fueled by a character-creator demo that allowed for very versatile options for customization. However, when the game launched its reviews on Steam plummeted downwards almost immediately, and for numerous reasons.
One of the biggest complaints was towards the egregious micro-transactions, as the game has numerous important items and features locked behind an extra paywall. Fast-travel, which is a staple of any open world game to move around in a fraction of the time, costs an extra $3, and the one most complained about is locking character edits behind a $2 paywall. If the game was free-to-play, this likely wouldn’t be as big of an issue, however the game costs $70 for the base game, and an extra $10 for the deluxe edition, so people are confused and disappointed.
The other big complaint is the poor optimization across all platforms, causing the game to struggle to hit 30 frames per second on consoles and PC. Even with high end computer hardware the game stutters often, and cannot go above 120 frames per second, however the developers have stated that they are going to support uncapped framerates.
