With the second semester nearing its end, there are many events for Seniors to look forward to.
Grad Bash will take place on April 13 from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. There are around 350 students attending, and charter buses will be provided for transportation. Buses will be leaving Newsome at 2:45 p.m. that day. “Dress code is required, and each student signed up will be getting an informational packet/itinerary when we come back from spring break,” says Mrs. Ohme, Class of 2024 representative.
Grad Bash is an event where high school seniors all over the county come together and enjoy a night at Universal Studios. Grad Bash gives students access to Universal’s Islands of Adventure Park and Universal Studios Park. Live DJs and street entertainment will also be available at Grad Bash. Tickets were sold for $200.
Prom will be on April 20, and tickets will be sold for $65 between April 2 and April 18. The theme will be “Viva Las Vegas.” Prom will be held at T. Pepin Hospitality Center between 8 p.m. and 12 a.m. There will be DJ Ron, a magician, and desserts. Prom Court and Prom Queen and King will also be announced along with the Senior Superlatives.
Yearbook distribution for Seniors is May 1, and will be hosted by Yearbook and Senior Council in the cafeteria. There will be a DJ and ice cream provided during the yearbook distribution. The last day for Seniors is May 13. May 14 is Senior Breakfast, which is mandatory. “Seniors usually dress nice and have a Chick-fil-A breakfast,” says Ohme.
Seniors receive their Blue Letters and have a photo op. The last day for Blue Letters to arrive at the school is by Friday, April 12. Blue Letters are a tradition at Newsome to honor Seniors by sending them a special note of congratulations on their upcoming graduation. Each student receives a large blue envelope containing the letters.
Senior graduation practice is May 12, on Mother’s Day. Graduation is May 22 and will be held on the Florida State Fairgrounds at 8a.m.
While the semester is coming to an end, it is a bittersweet goodbye with lots of celebration in between.
