On Jan. 31, NBCUniversal posted an over seven minute long video officially announcing details about the lands, attractions, and resorts they are creating as part of their newest theme park. This has led to a ton of excitement and speculation surrounding the theme park industry in Florida.
The video revealed the Epic Universe would include portals to new lands based around beloved intellectual property. These lands will include a world that blends the “Ministry of Magic” from the “Harry Potter” films with the setting of “Fantastic Beast and Where To Find Them.” It will also include “The Isle of Berk” based on the “How To Train Your Dragon” franchise, as well as a “Dark Universe” based on classic monsters like Frankenstein and The Mummy.
This video also confirmed that Orlando will be getting its own version of Super Nintendo World, nearly identical to the lands at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Japan. With this, it will receive its own version of the ride “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge” which combines a high speed ride through sets based on classic Mario-Kart maps with augmented reality visuals that allow you to see Mario characters race alongside you and even to throw items like in the game. Universal has also announced plans for a Donkey Kong ride that will use a never before seen ride system to make it appear as though riders’ minecarts are jumping the track.
All of these lands will be connected by a central hub world called Celestial Park. Celestial Park will contain gardens, waters, statues, rides and restaurants all inspired by astronomical and mythological elements. It is confirmed to have Starfall Racers, a dual launch coaster that reaches 62 miles per hour that has two coaster vehicles perform an inverted criss-cross in the air. It will also feature a Constellation Carousel and Astronomica, an interactive wet play area.
Universal also announced that they are building the Helios Grand Hotel which will be located inside the park near the end of Celestial Park. It also revealed the creation of Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort, dueling hotels that are also astrologically themed.
With all of these details, Universal has drummed up hype for Epic Universe and raised expectations for the level of projects theme parks should be constructing in Florida.
