Being a high school student athlete brings a whole other level of stress to an already full workload. Having practice, homework, and extracurriculars leaves very little time for much else. However, many take it in stride and make the best of their packed days. One athlete in particular who has mastered this is Mimi Walters.
A senior here at Newsome, Walters is a part of the cross country team, lacrosse team, and a member of Student Government Association (SGA). Balancing two sports may seem to be a challenge, but Mimi says her, “…endurance built up from cross country transfers over to lacrosse and helps [her] play full games when needed.” She has been signed to play for The George Washington University (GW) as a midfielder in lacrosse, and says she, “…can’t wait to play at the Division 1 level.”
Being a senior comes with its own stresses, as you apply to colleges and work on those final Common Apps. Since she committed in her junior year to GW, Mimi has been able to, “…enjoy [her] senior year and just make memories with [her] friends.”
Some memories she fondly looks back on as her final months at Newsome commence include, “…many [of the] SGA pep rally dances [she’s] performed in over the years and getting named MVP for the lacrosse season last year.”
