As we transition between seasons, the music genre moves with it. October was filled with spooky songs to bring out people’s inner witch and wizard, celebrating the ever-tooth-aching Halloween.
But as we move into November, the turkey-loving holiday has been sorely forgotten for what many call the greatest time of the year. That would be Christmas.
The weather gets colder, the Starbucks winter menu is released, and Mariah Carey has broken out of her seasonal prison. Everyone seems to be excited to finally be able to play their favorite Christmas songs for the next few months, including classics such as “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and “All I Want for Christmas”.
But what truly are the best Christmas/Winter holiday songs? I will be ranking my top 3 favorite songs that, when I hear them throughout the mall, will not make me violently ill.
Starting off with the 3rd best song would have to be “Santa Baby” by Eartha Kitt. A very understated option for the holiday, this song brings out the slower, more emotional side of the season’s music. Her voice carries beautifully through the song, making it a wonderful choice to play for Christmas.
In 2nd would have to be “Baby It’s Cold Outside” by Idina Menzel and Micheal Buble. The reputation of both these artists precedes them, and this song does not disappoint. The overlapping of their voices mimics a conversation with the lighthearted holiday beat to accompany it.
The best song for the Christmas season, released only two years ago, would have to be “winter wonderland” by Bryson Tiller. A singer not typically known for cheery holiday melodies, Tiller’s vocals mixed with those of his daughter, Halo, create the perfect song for the winter season.
No matter if you want to listen to tunes that envision you dancing with Santa and his elves or opening presents by the fire with the family, this winter season is shaping up to be one filled with love, laughter, and memories to last a lifetime.
