Matcha, a green powder made from ground green tea leaves, is something I have avoided for an incredibly long time. The overall taste, look, and scent were enough to make me never want to try it again.
That is until I learned I was drinking it all wrong. Just recently, I was introduced to a new form of the tea leaves- a ‘matcha milkshake’. It consisted of one scoop of matcha, two scoops of vanilla ice cream, and a splash of milk blended all together. For someone who used to despise the tea, it was surprisingly not a bad combination.
This did get me thinking, however, what is a way that I can enjoy matcha similar to this milkshake, just more ‘everyday friendly’?
The answer:
- ½ tsp of ground matcha
- 2 ounces of water
- 6 ounces of any kind of milk
- ½ ounce of vanilla creamer
Steps:
1) Add your water into a small bowl and slowly whisk the matcha in. Continue whisking until the mixture becomes bubbly and foamy on top.
2) In a separate cup, measure out your milk and creamer and start frothing them. They should also be foamy when done whisking!
3) Combine your matcha mixture and milk into your cup, fill the rest of the cup with ice, then cover the top and give your drink a nice little swirl around.
This recipe makes the perfect balance of sweet and earthy with the vanilla and matcha together. If you prefer sweeter matcha, I recommend adding more creamer or another sweetening agent, and vice versa for a more earthy drink. Enjoy!!
