Nearly three decades following the death of renowned music artist Tupac Shakur, Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been arrested in connection with Tupac’s death.
On Sept. 7, 1996, the artist known as Tupac was fatally wounded at a stoplight in Las Vegas during a drive-by shooting, dying six days later. 27 years later, a man has finally been arrested for his death.
On Sept. 27, 2023, Duane Keith Davis was brought into custody and charged with the murder of Tupac. 60 year old Davis has been the only living witness of the shooting, and is a known member of the California gang “South Side Compton Crips.” Davis has previously confessed to being inside of the Cadillac that opened fire on Tupac’s BMW and providing the weapon used.
After an incident where Tupac and company kicked and punched Davis’s nephew, Davis reportedly was motivated to begin the plan to attack Tupac by firearm in retaliation.
Davis has been charged with one count of murder with use of a deadly weapon by assistance in gang activity. While Davis is not accused as the gunman in the murder, he has been considered to be the leader of the violent crime. Davis was due in court the week of Oct. 2, 2023.
Tupac was known for his activism against inequality as expressed in his music, and continues to be an influential music artist even after his death.
