The candidates for the 2024 republican primaries are currently continuing the process of perfecting their organization to determine the party’s future presidential candidates.
The current runners of the republican primaries include former 2016 and 2020 presidential candidate Donald Trump, Florida governor Ron DeSantis, former vice president (2016) Mike Pence, former governor of South Carolina (2011), and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations (2017 )Nikki Haley, American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, author Perry Johnson, former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson (2015), talk show host Larry Elder, pastor Ryan Binkley, South Carolina senator Tim Scott, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie (2010), North Dakota governor Doug Burgum, lawyer and current Miami mayor Francis Suarez, and former CIA clandestine officer and former U.S. representative for Texas’ 23rd congressional district Will Hurd.
Trump, inundated with controversy and his multiple indictments most notably, his part in the Jan. 6 insurrection, he continues to remain as the current frontrunner for the party.
Ron DeSantis plans to eliminate four federal agencies in order to reduce the size of the government if elected as president. The agencies he wishes to close include energy, commerce, and the IRS. He also wishes to drastically change the education system in order to fight against “woke” ideologies. If he receives predicted criticism of his idea from Congress, he plans to use said agencies to “push back against woke ideology and against the leftism that we see creeping into all institutions of American life,” as stated in an interview with FOX News.
The last highly popularized candidate, Mike Pence, stays in tight competition for potential votes with DeSantis and Trump. Pence, centralizing economic issues and abortion in his campaign while also highlighting his religious background as a part of his running and future policies he plans to implement.
All of the candidates’ positions in the primaries are heavily subject to change in time. However, Pence, DeSantis, and Trump are predicted to be and have remained as the most probable candidates for the election.
The results of the republican primaries and who will represent the republican party in the 2024 election will be determined from Jan. 15, 2024 to June 11, 2024.
