Drake might be not only the most popular artist of this generation, but the most popular artist of all time. His newest album, “For All the Dogs,” was released on October 6, featuring artists such as Teezo Touchdown, Jermaine Cole, Lil Yachty, and more. This release comes on the heels of his albums “Honestly, Nevermind” and “Her Loss,” both of which received middling reactions from fans and critics alike.
However, Drake reached the pinnacle of his artistry on his new album. His incredible diversity is on display throughout the entire 23-song tracklist. His rapping capabilities sound sharper than ever on tracks such as “First Person Shooter” and “8 am in Charlotte”, while his crooning singing style greatly compliments the airy production on “Bahama Promises” and “Slime Me Out”.
Drake also manages to expand into new lanes throughout the track list, as he sings in Spanish over a Latin beat with famed artist Bad Bunny on “Gently”. He also raps on a rage trap beat with his cohort Yeat on the song “IDGAF,”which thus far is the most streamed on the record.
That is not to say that the project is flawless. Tracks such as “All the Parties” and “Calling for You” are only redeemable because of their guest appearances from Chief Keef and 21 Savage. Furthermore, the extensive runtime of almost an hour and a half can become tiring, especially in the middle stretch of the tracklist.
Overall, “For All the Dogs” stands out as Drake’s finest effort since his peak in the mid-2010s. While the track list may seem intimidating due to its sheer length, it rewards a patient listener with tons of fun, replayable bangers throughout its run time.
