While many trends caught peoples’ eyes in 2022, claw clips and baggy clothing being some, there were also scandalous moments in the world of entertainment that nobody could turn away from.

   At the 94th Academy Awards, the “slap heard ‘round the world” shocked all viewers in person and watching online. Chris Rock was announcing the award for best documentary, when he cracked a joke about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Will Smith charged the stage, went right up to Rock and slapped him across the face, bringing gasps from everybody. Everything was eventually resolved in the days following the incident, but not before news spread worldwide and had tons of memes made from it.

   During late March and into April last year, televisions were turned to the news or whichever channel had the infamous Depp-Heard trial. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard went to court, suing each other for defamation claims, stemming from their relationship from 2012 to 2017.

   They started dating in 2012, got engaged in 2014, married in 2015, and Heard filed for divorce in 2016, claiming she was physically abused by Depp. In 2017, when the divorce was finalized, Depp had to live with the accusations that Heard claimed and he thought his life was “over.” By 2022, the couple found their way back to court, where new evidence was brought up on the accounts of abuse and the couple’s private relationship. 

   Over the six-week trial, millions of Americans were following along with the case and it was the most popular event happening at that time. 

   Towards the end of the year, in the middle of November, Swifties nationwide were ecstatic about getting presale access to Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour.” When all of them tried to buy tickets at the same time, Ticketmaster was overrun by millions of people, causing the site to crash multiple times, and leaving many without tickets. 

   Fans were in waiting rooms to buy tickets with thousands of people ahead of them in the queue and when they got to the front of the line, they were kicked out and had to get back into the queue.

   By the end of the day of sales, Ticketmaster was getting canceled and half the country was angry at the whole situation.

   Finally, another scandal that caught peoples’ eyes was the cheating in relationships. A popular one was Adam Levine cheating on his wife and wanting to name the baby the name of the girl he cheated with.

    In light of the eye-catching 2022 scandals, hopefully 2023 will bring some even better ones.
