“Animal Crossing New Horizons” 1.10 Update
June 1, 2021
Players of “Animal Crossing New Horizons” have been eagerly awaiting the 2.0 update, but the developers shocked them by following version 1.9 with 1.10 instead. This has left many players disappointed and with unanswered questions.
In the time leading up to the recent update, fans of the game speculated what it would bring. Perhaps the most popular theory was that Brewster would be coming to New Horizons, after data miners found evidence in the game code suggesting a cafe will be added to the museum.
Brewster is a character from the previous Animal Crossing games who worked in the cafe called The Roost, which was either in the museum or its own separate building. Players could buy coffee from Brewster, and he would hold all of their gyroids for them so they wouldn’t have to use their limited storage space.
While Brewster doesn’t play an essential role in the series, many players were excited by the possibility of his return in the new update. But Brewster is nowhere to be found within the contents of the new update. Despite this, many players are still holding onto hope that he will be added into the game in a future update.
The 1.10 update certainly didn’t leave players empty handed though. The most notable part of the 1.10 update is the return of the May Day event. This is a challenging maze that forces players to strategically make choices and use the items around them to advance.
Waiting for those who complete the maze is Rover, a character who congratulates them on their success and sends them a prize item which can only be obtained by completing the May Day event.
Like the May Day event, 1.10 brings back the seasonal wedding event, which celebrates the wedding anniversary of Cyrus and Reese, two more characters from previous Animal Crossing games. Cyrus and Reese will be back on Harv’s island where the player will decorate for their wedding photos.
If the player returns to take photos everyday, they will be rewarded with heart crystals. Heart crystals are then used to buy the exclusive wedding event items. Other items can be bought using Bells, the regular game currency.
With the return of the May Day event and the wedding event being the largest points of the 1.10 update, there are also some small patches included as well. These patches fix glitches discovered by players. For example, 1.10 stops players from being able to place fences on the pier by standing on custom designs.
While the 1.10 update has plenty of content to keep players busy for a while, many are still disappointed that it’s not update 2.0, and that it hasn’t brought back the features players have really been longing for.
