Yearbook Hits a Homerun with its Newest Edition

Drew Kozlin, Editor in Chief, Online

Newsome’s yearbook has been released- and it is absolutely incredible. From pictures, to graphics, to videos, the “Legend 2016” yearbook truly has it all.

The Editor-in-Chief, Sabrina Stantzyk-Guzek, came up with the theme “to be continued…” which perfectly symbolizes both the new adventures the graduating seniors will face and the ongoing journey for all the underclassmen.

Stantzyk-Guzek was extremely proud of how this year’s edition shaped up stating, “It’s always cool starting with hundreds of blank pages and seeing them get filled up as the year progresses until the whole book is complete!”

However, this year the staff actually went beyond filling the pages. They introduced an app called Aurasma which takes the content even beyond the actual book.

When you hover over certain pictures using the app, a slideshow or video will come up that relates to the picture. For example, on many of the sports pages you can hover over a picture and a video of the team in action will appear! “I really enjoyed introducing augmented reality to continue the content beyond the pages,” Stantzyk-Guzek continued.

Another neat idea incorporated for the first time was the use of people as page numbers. In the bottom corner of each page there are people holding up numbers to represent which page it is. This was a very interactive way to get more people involved with the yearbook and add some individuality to it.

With an amazing spread and a handful of new ideas, we were curious who was behind this spectacular publication. Stantzyk-Guzek was eager to give credit to her fellow staff members stating, “A lot of us are very good friends in there! Lauren Reneau worked on attaching the auras to all the senior pictures and the photo editors Madi Bridges and Sara Feldkirchner did a lot as well.”

Another key piece to the puzzle is the advisor, Mr. Govreau. His consistent dedication to the yearbook has helped make it a great success. However, he was quick to remind everyone that the yearbook is not run by him, but by the students, “This book is complete entirely due to the dedication of the staff. In particular, Sabrina has spent countless hours working late into the night trying to polish everyone’s work before she felt it was as good as it could be.”

Every single senior on the staff felt that their high school career would not have been the same without the journey that yearbook provided. Despite being very stressful at times, many agreed that it was the reason for some of their most fond memories. Stantzyk-Guzek elaborated on this by saying, “Yearbook has been very time consuming but it has taught me a lot about leadership through the years and has kept me very connected to what was always going on in the school.”

So if you have not yet bought a yearbook, we hear at Wolf Tracks highly recommend that you do so as soon as possible. This is a phenomenal publication of news, entertainment, photography, and memories that will last us a lifetime.
