In a class stockpiled with geniuses, extracurricular enthusiasts, and athletes galore, ten of the Class of 2016’s smartest and most well-rounded students have achieved Newsome immortality with a spot in the Senior Hall of Fame.
The list of Newsome’s newest Hall of Fame members is as follows: Marianna Faiello, Jacob Fullerton, Sarah Gregorich, Ryan Grabau, Emily Harrell, Dirk Hoening, Christina Phillips, Hannah Pridemore, Sabrina Stanzyk-Guzek, and Jamie Tompkins.
These students all met the requirements of a 4.0 or higher weighted GPA, no suspensions, and participation in at least 6 clubs/sports. However, they all went far beyond these standards. This list includes the President, Vice President, Council President, Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, perfect SAT scores, and 4.0s among many other incredible accomplishments.
SGA President Jamie Tompkins weighed in on her acceptance into the hall of fame saying, “All of my role models were in the hall of fame, so it was a proud moment knowing that I got to follow in their footsteps,” Tompkins continued, “I was surprised because there are so many bright kids in my grade that are so deserving of being in it.”
Tompkins brings up a great point. The Class of 2016 has been the highest to date in terms of average GPA for the Hall of Fame. These incredible students have earned acceptance into Virginia, Duke, Florida, Southern California, and Carnegie Mellon just to name a few.
Outside of the classroom these students have been just as impressive.
Emily Harrell, Vice President of SGA and three-sport athlete stated that her favorite accomplishments from her time at Newsome include, “Being elected as VP, making it to the ‘Sweet 16’ in basketball, and becoming quarterback of the Varsity Flag Football team as a Freshman.”
The Senior Hall of Fame is recognized with its own spread in the Yearbook, so stay tuned in order to learn more about the Class of 2016’s most accomplished students.
