Getting to Know Rush Hour Productions

Amelia Wilson, Reporter

Newsome Wolf Tracks has had the privilege of getting an inside look to the making of Rush Hour Productions (the hit feature of the Newsome morning show), and the talented, hilarious producers behind it.

Seniors Cameron Shack and Alex Ullom excitedly explain the process of making the Rush Hour Productions videos, and the meaning it has to them. “My favorite part of Rush Hour Productions is just bringing joy to the beginning of the day and starting the day off with a laugh,” Cameron explains.

While it is certainly clear that the videos produced by these stellar people bring joy to the students and faculty of Newsome, there are also many questions about how it is all possible. Alex Ullom gives us the full detail of the process; “First, we come together, and come up with an idea. We plan on it a bit and then plan how the show or episode will go. Next, we plan out what we will say, and how the different scenes will all play out. The shooting process is a lot of fun.”

Cameron agrees with Alex, and adds that “Alex does most of the editing.” Cameron and Alex also provide Newsome Wolftracks with their personal experiences and favorite parts of the infamous Rush Hour Productions videos. Describing how the ideas for videos usually come to them. Alex says that they simply “bounce ideas off of each other,” he continued, “The most excited we’ve ever been about an idea was when we were starting to make Newsome Jump Street last year.”

After all of the hilarious videos and the many laughs brought to Newsome by these two students, Wolftracks was intrigued to learn about their inspiration for taking on this crucial role in the Newsome morning show. “Cameron and I both love film and we get to show off our talents through our videos,” says Alex. “The videos are pretty difficult to make, and take a while since it is hard to coordinate everyone to film. Luckily, I like editing, and in the end it’s worth it when people tell Cameron and I they liked our video,” he continues.

Cameron and Alex’s bright, outgoing personalities shine through not only their morning show videos, but through their everyday encounters. When asked if they had any advice to give to their fan base, both laughed, and Cameron quickly said to “tell any snowbunnies to hit me up at CShack28.” While both are extremely witty and humorous, they are also incredibly intelligent and gifted. On a more serious note, the pair added, “It’s been a great 3 years making videos. Thank you for all of the support.”

Both have a strong passion for producing videos, for the bond that the TV production crew has developed, and definitely for the man in charge of it all, Mr. Govreau.

“Jim [Mr. Govreau] takes a lot of… teacher commentary,” jokes Alex. “Most of the time, teachers aren’t too happy with our videos, but Jim is always there to stand up for us and support us. We are like cars that make very edgy videos, and Gov is the bridge. Also, I would be a faster car than Cameron.”

Cameron agrees, while laughing and adding “Jim [Mr. Govreau] has been the white father to me. He has taken me down the right path- towards loving film-making. But back to the point, Jim is always there for us, and we know he will miss us.”

Cameron and Alex are truly a delightful pair of people, whose wit, humor, and truly outstanding character make them idols to many Newsome students, as well as a true pleasure to interview.
