In 1983, the world laid witness to the most revered live performance put to film in history. That first moment, when David Byrne, Lead Singer of the legendary oddball outfit “The Talking Heads,” opened the audience with a solo performance of “Psycho Killer,” and the audience responded with an eruption, a spectacle was bound to be shown that night.
Now, 40 years later, art film studio A24 heightens this experience with a 4k IMAX rerelease in theaters.
For any fan of the band or weird misfit music that strikes the soul, this is a must-see. The one-hour and 28-minute run time does not drag once, with every song becoming increasingly more absurd and theatrical. The band’s charm is in full force in this performance, and Byrne’s signature dance moves are iconic in pop culture. Prepare for big gray suits and increasing intensity that makes for an absolute blast.
Talking Heads’ features their most beloved tracks, playing “Once in a Lifetime,” “Burning Down the House,” “This Must Be the Place,” The aforementioned “Psycho Killer,” and many more.
At the height of the film, expect to see guitars, bass, choir singers, a drum set, bongos, keyboard, and wacky choreography.
This is the last live performance the band ever played, and shortly after the band broke up, so many fans consider this to be the band’s final masterpiece.
