Cambridge Academy
May 30, 2023
New academic flexibility will be introduced to Newsome with Cambridge Academy for the 2023 to 2024 school year. Freshmen will be the only students eligible to take the Advanced International Certification of Education (AICE) Cambridge Academy courses for the 2023 to 2024 school year.
Diplomas awarded by the AICE are internationally recognized and available to students
who have successfully completed a series of academic courses. Cambridge qualifications are accepted by more than 2000 institutions in 95 countries around the world. Approximately 825 US universities, including all Ivy Leagues and all UK universities, accept Cambridge
qualifications.
AICE diplomas require students to pass seven credits worth of exams, with at least
one from each subject group. Among the subject groups are mathematics and science, languages, arts and humanities and interdisciplinary skills.
AICE is equivalent to an IB program, but is flexible and more adaptive to students’
interests. AICE prepares students to enter college with up to 30 credit hours that are already completed. Students do not have to earn the full AICE diploma to receive college credit; every college credit is awarded based on satisfactory completion of each subject.
All Newsome High School Cambridge Academy/AICE students will be required to start with general paper and thinking skills. In addition to the four core subject groups, Global Perspectives and Research are also required.
Beyond that point, there are three credits the student can take where they wish to make up a total of seven credits.
In an interview conducted by Cambridge Academy, 100 percent agreed Cambridge students think logically and present coherent arguments, 100 percent agreed that Cambridge students have in-depth subject knowledge, and 98 percent said Cambridge qualifications help students to succeed at university.
Cambridge will only be available to incoming freshmen for the 2023-2024 school year and will open up a second phase of Cambridge Academy to 10th graders for the 2024-2025 school year.
