Keeping up with the Balls

While some aspiring NBA stars are busy practicing and praying to be noticed, the Ball family has taken a different approach. Their outrageous start-up business combined with impertinent father, LaVar Ball, has been their claim to fame.

They’ve made themselves known in a manner similar to that of the Kardashians– America is infatuated with their drama. In 2016, the family started the “Big Baller Brand,” a start-up business looked upon as ridiculous from the start.

They sought co-branding deals with major brands, and charge in the upwards of a thousand dollars for a pair of shoes. Though Ball brother Lonzo Ball is currently playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, he’s still a rookie, and definitely isn’t a big enough name to justify such awesome demands.

LaVar Ball has come out and stated that he is already dreaming about a package sneaker deal for his three sons, Lonzo, LaMelo, and LiAngelo, which would be for around a billion dollars. “That’s our number, a billion, straight out of the gate, and you don’t even have to give it to me all up front. Give us $100 million over ten years” said Ball. Only $100 million a year! How reasonable!

Besides how insanely expensive this deal would be, the NCAA has regulations in place that would prevent a deal while any of the three sons are playing college basketball. Considering the youngest son, LaMelo, is only 15 years old, it will be quite a few years before LaVar Balls’ proposed deal could become a reality.

Recent drama was stirred up when LiAngelo Ball was discovered to be one of the UCLA basketball players arrested for shoplifting in China on Nov. 7. He has since been released on bail, but is still confined to his hotel room and is facing three to ten years in jail if convicted.

The Ball family will hopefully keep the drama coming, as it has been highly entertaining to watch for those of us not involved. Keep an eye out in the news for LaVar Ball- the crazy basketball dad.
