Candlelight

Alexis Gonzalez, Reporter

The air was filled with anticipation and excitement. Crowds of people, all from different places around the world, lined up to see Disney’s production of Candle Light and all of its fantastic performers.

I couldn’t help but be filled with excitement while patiently standing in line. My sister would soon perform on the Disney stage alongside the Newsome High School Chorus for thousands to see.

I waited in the long line that twisted and turned all down Italy and the United States; locations at Epcot. It seemed as if the line was endless.

“Come on in!” Screamed a lady who worked at Disney.

We all began to shuffle our way to the seating area to watch the performance. Once seated alongside my mom and many other proud families it was time to begin the countdown till the beginning of the show.

The stage was decorated with an assortment of decorations. Red bows, lights, and Christmas wreaths surrounded the stage.

In the center of the stage, the Disney cast wore green robes, and all of them stacked on the stage to form the perfect Christmas tree.

Then the lights slowly dimmed, people hushed the ones around them and everyone grew silent. We all sat still, as if the audience was afraid to move a muscle.

The large orchestra and their conductor gracefully made their way to their assigned seats on the stage  while being accompanied by cheering and clapping from the crowd.

The conductor raised his arms up slowly and calmly, as if his arms were under water, and the orchestra followed his movements with their instruments.

Everything paused, the crowd was on the edge of their seats, waiting for something amazing to happen.

Suddenly the calm conductor passionately swung his hands in the air and the music began.

Then the faint sound of beautiful voices came up from behind me. The singers came down the aisles singing the sweet song God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman.

Once the singers made their way to the stage, the show went on.

Their celebrity narrator Edward James Olmos joined the performers on the stage to share the story of Jesus and the beginning of Christmas.

The crowd all listened in as if they were listening to their fathers at night reading them a book before bedtime.

The performers wore long yellow robes, while holding a burning candle. Once all were on the stage the yellow robes transformed the singers into a human embodiment of vibrant candles.

I sat there watching the performance as it went on. The crowd sings along, rocking their bodies to the beat and letting the Christmas spirit flow within them.

The show went on, each song being perfectly sung, and the narration perfectly spoken. The whole entire time, I could see the crowd smiling.

When the performance came to end, the show ended with the song, Hallelujah. Everyone stood up onto their feet. Families members locked finger with the ones around them. Once the singers began to sing, the crowd sang along.

For a moment in time, it seemed as if all the worries, fears, and pain in the world all disappeared. Everyone appreciated the moment they were in, and just for a second, the world seemed to be together.
