Get Ready for the Switch

Nintendo has been one of the most influential companies in the video game industry with the many innovations it has brought into the public eye like motion sensed consoles with the Wii and popularizing handheld consoles with the DS, making them a household name.

But over the past few years, attention on the company has dropped ever since the release of the WiiU, successor to the Wii. Many have started to wonder if there will be any way that Nintendo can make a comeback into the gaming scene.

On October 20th, Nintendo announced to the world that a new console was coming: the Nintendo Switch. In the three-minute clip that reveals the console, it’s shown as a hybrid console that can go from a home console to a handheld in an instant.

The design also resembles the predecessor of the Switch, the WiiU, with the controller having a screen. What makes the Switch different from the WiiU’s Pro Controller? You can easily remove the JoyCon controllers from either side of it to have two remotes for multiplayer games. It will also only use one screen at a time, either look to the television or the tablet, as was confirmed on IGN.

The Switch was also seen to use cartridges for the games instead of discs like they have used for other consoles. Sadly, there will be no physical backwards compatibility for 3ds or WiiU games.

As for the launch games, the only one that have been confirmed as of right now would be Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wind, the next game in the iconic Legend of Zelda franchise.

The Switch definitely seems to be an exciting addition to the Nintendo family, with many already enthusiastic about the console. We can only hope that this makes an impact on not only the future of the company, but the way we game.

The Nintendo Switch will be released in March of 2017.
