In the wake of one of the most profound attacks in American history, patriotism reached an all time high, and this patriotism prospers even 15 years later as citizens commemorate the effect 9/11 had on America.

Senior Seth Stanley marched over 13 miles on the side of well traveled roads, while dressed in full combat gear, as he carried a large American flag over his shoulder, to inspire his community.

Stanley said he marched to spread awareness, and to remind Americans to never forget the pain, as well as, the patriotism that rose from the attacks that astounded the nation in 2001.

“Millions can hang a flag up, and I respect that” said Stanley “but I wanted to push myself mentally and physically, while raising awareness.”

While Stanley was too young to comprehend the devastation in America on that day, he said “When I was old enough to understand what had happened it pushed me to fight and do what I can for this country.”

Stanley plans to join the United States Army, and hopes to progress to the position of Ranger, then Special Forces. Among the reasons for joining, are his patriotism and willingness to give his own life to preserve freedom, according to Stanley.

History will never forget the day that brought unity in the face of utter destruction and loss. It is this unity that inspires Stanley to honor his country.

Stanley claimed his march was nothing compared to the 3,000 deaths and the subsequent effect of those deaths at the hands of terrorists. Stanley “has no intention of allowing terrorists to control us, because we’re stronger than that.”

Americans continue traditions such as the march carried out by Stanley, to remember a time when people emerged from the rubble not marked by differences, but as Americans united.

“God bless America, and everyone within it.” concluded Stanley, which captured the essence of Patriot Day and why it remains so prominent in the lives of every American.
