March Madness

The final four is set and millions of brackets are now completely busted. Villanova, Syracuse, North Carolina, and Oklahoma have ascended to the top of college basketball and are now in a league of their own rising victorious out of their respective regions.

With UNC being the only number one seed to survive this year has been marked by the outstanding amount of upsets. More surprisingly was Syracuse, the first 10th seed in NCAA history to reach the Final Four. Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield has literally carried the Sooners on his back behind his outstanding senior campaign. Villanova has lived past the “weak new Big East” stereotype to finish above favorite #1 overall seed Kansas in an instant thriller.

Syracuse: The ‘Cuse may have avoided #2 Michigan State and #3 Utah in an upset loaded Midwest bracket. However a decisive win over Virginia clearly validated how good this team is. Lead by Malachi Richardson’s 23 points and sharp 3 point shooting off the bench. With 21 of those 23 points in the second half.

North Carolina: This team seemed destined for the Final Four blowing out the competition. For the third time this season the Tar Heels were able to edge out Notre Dame as senior standout Brice Johnson carried the team with 25 points and 12 rebounds. This senior group seems to be the best in recent memory and Marcus Paige aims to finish his career with a national championship.

Oklahoma: Is there anything that Buddy Hield can not do. The Sooners quickly disposed of the Oregon Ducks 80-68 while Hield dropped 37 points making 8 three pointers along the way. While Hield receives most of the national attention he has a great supporting cast. Backcourt mates Isaiah Cousins and Jordan Woodard contributed 11 and 13 points respectively along with 7 and 2 assists.

Villanova: To earn a way into the Final Four the Wildcats took down the giant Kansas 64-59. With balanced scoring and a controlling game Nova seems ready to build on the momentous win for Jay Wright.
