The University of Florida is releasing their 2016-17 Freshman acceptance notifications this Friday, February 12th. A significant population of Newsome seniors are anxiously anticipating this day that could easily change the course of their lives.

Senior, Isabel Castro shares that she would love to attend the University of Florida and participate in their outstanding engineering program. “I did an engineering tour and I fell in love with the program. They are one of the best, if not, the best in Florida.” explains Castro.

Castro’s academic career has left her among the top of her class, and her involvement in clubs and activities both in and out of school has helped foster her success up to this point. Yet, butterflies still swarm in her stomach as the date nears for her top-choice school to release their decision.

Jamie Tompkins, another Newsome Senior, would also love to attend the University of Florida; however, a rejection letter wouldn’t be the end of her world. Her response was very stoic in that she believes, “I’m trying not to think about whether I’ll get in or not – it’s just unnecessary stress. It either is, or isn’t.”

Tompkins is another outstanding student who is very involved in the school; she is President of SGA and maintains her academic success as well. She’s keeping everything in perspective, realizing that whether she is accepted or not, she is still going to enjoy some good food.

So while some students are looking forward to February 14th for their future, others hope to find it on February 12th instead. Good luck seniors.
