The 2016 track season has just begun and Newsome’s track team has been out on the track training hard.

The first meet is two weeks from now, and both the boys and girls teams have been practicing their events and perfecting their technique. The girl sprinters have been running the 100 and 200 meter dashes, along with the 400. Long distance runners have been doing endurance training and have even used the cross country track when running the 800 to build strength and prolong stamina.

On that same note, each runner, no matter if they run long distance or short distance, is training for other events. Triple and long jumpers have been practicing jumping into the pit and measuring their distance, aiming more and more for a higher number. High jumpers have already pulled out the landing pad and are ready to go.

Everyone is working hard on something in order to ensure a successful season. Moreover, Coach Greene has planned a practice meet in which the team splits up and competes against each other to give the experience of a real meet and identify what needs to be worked on.
